FAQ’S

What age do I have to be?

We work with volunteers aged from 16 upwards

How much time do I have to give?
It’s entirely up to you. It could be once a week or more, once or twice a month, whatever suits you and the task you are volunteering to help with. Some volunteers help out for specific events like the annual Ironbridge Coracle Regatta.
How will I know what to say to visitors?
We won’t expect you to be on your own when you first start. You can ‘shadow’ a more experienced volunteer. We will provide you with all the information you need to carry out your task, and exhibition notes for reference in the New Coracle Shed at the Green Wood Centre.
I’m really interested in local history and coracles but am concerned that I don’t know all the facts.
We will provide you with training and information and an exhibition handbook you can refer to, as well as other books and useful reference sources. We will also be running workshops and training in collecting people’s memories, Dementia Friends awareness and collecting evaluation information.
I don’t have my own transport- is any provided?
Sadly public transport is limited in Ironbridge Gorge, so it does help to have your own vehicle unless you live close by and can walk or cycle.
Do you pay volunteer expenses?
We are unable to pay travel expenses but can provide refreshments for people volunteering all day.

  • Helping to maintain the grounds beside the old coracle shed, coracle sculpture and new coracle shed

Corporate Volunteering

Corporate volunteering is a great way to strengthen teams, deliver on your Corporate Social Responsibility targets and for colleagues to have fun together and learn new skills.

Employer supported volunteering allows groups of employees to support the charitable objectives of the Ironbridge Coracle Trust by helping deliver larger projects and events like the annual August Bank Holiday Coracle Regatta and other smaller events like the memory café or family coracle- craft sessions.

Each project is different and can be matched to your needs and objectives. Activities can be physical or desk-based, indoors or outdoors but are always fun and rewarding.

We welcome groups of any size and for any duration from half a day to a regular commitment over a year. Full operational and administrative support will be given during the project planning phase and throughout the project, including risk assessments and all health and safety training.

Potential tasks for corporate groups include:

  • Helping run our memory café sessions
  • Helping run craft sessions with families and children’s groups
  • Helping at the August Bank Holiday Coracle Regatta
  • Meet and greet visitors at the New Coracle Shed.
  • Fundraising for Ironbridge Coracle Trust
  • Evaluating events and activities
  • Cleaning and conserving collections
  • Collecting people’s memories
  • Scanning historic photos
  • Digitising documents and records
  • Help with social media and blogs
